Lough Key Castle Island Loop

Part of the Shannon and managed by Waterways Ireland this clean, tree lined lake has one of the countries most unique castles locations standing proud in the middle of our swim.  The aptly name 'Castle Island' gets lapped by our 1.5km course while the 750m swimmers will cruise by its front door. 

Remember if you are feeling fit you can swim both of out distances on the day for the one entry.

Lough Key (irish: loch Cè) the "Jewel of the west" it derives its name from Ce which was the druid of Nuadha of the silver arm. According to legend Nuadha of the silver arm was the king of the ancient Tuath de Danann which means the people of Danu. The Tuath de Danann arrived in Ireland bring with them the Lia Fail (Stone of destiny) which was placed on the hill of Tara and from that point on the rightful king of Ireland was chosen when it called out.The King Nuadha of the silver arm was drowned when the waters of Lough key burst forth from the earth.

Date: Saturday 20th June 2020
Location: Lough Key Forest Park, Boyle, Co. Roscommon
Swim Distances: 750m Open Water Swim - 11am
1,500m Open Water Swim - 12am
Closing Date: Thursday 13th June (or sooner if sold out)
Age Limit: 13 years old on the day of the event.  HOWEVER we would ask anyone between 13 and 17 to contact us as we may require you to bring your own COMPETENT kayaker that will accompany them for the swim
Swim Registration:
8-10am for 750m  8-10am for 1500m. Swim Cap, race numbers and goodie bags can be collected at this time.
